Children often face challenges when using toothpaste independently. They may squeeze out excess toothpaste, which can be harmful to their bodies due to the high fluoride content. Additionally, the small contact area between the toothpaste and toothbrush can cause the toothpaste to slide off easily.
The Koinobori Toothpaste, designed by JM Yu, J Wang, QY Zhou, GW Lyu, and QY Yu, addresses these issues with innovative features. The toothpaste nozzle is designed in a half-circle shape, increasing the friction area between the toothpaste and toothbrush while reducing the amount of toothpaste dispensed. This design effectively solves the problems mentioned earlier.
What sets the Koinobori Toothpaste apart is its unique shape, inspired by the traditional Japanese image of "Koinobori," which represents a carp and is associated with Japan's traditional festival. By incorporating this design, the team aims to draw attention to traditional culture and promote its preservation.
The toothpaste cap is made of silica gel, while the toothpaste tube is made of plastic material. The dimensions of the toothpaste tube are 50mm in width, 80mm in depth, and the radius of the toothpaste nozzle is 1mm.
Designed to be used like ordinary toothpaste, the Koinobori Toothpaste provides children with a fun and engaging experience while promoting independence in their oral care routine.
The Koinobori Toothpaste project began in January 2015 in Japan and was completed in March 2015 in China. Extensive research was conducted on both Japanese traditional culture and children's actions when using toothpaste to ensure the design's effectiveness.
The Koinobori Toothpaste design received the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Beauty, Personal Care, and Cosmetic Products category in 2016. This award recognizes the outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill demonstrated by the design. It showcases a remarkable level of excellence and aims to evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
